Installing perforated geocells for road stabilisation
GA Geocells are lightweight, flexible, three-dimensional cellular confinement panels used to stabilise soil, aggregate, sand, gravel and concrete infill. Once expanded and filled, the cellular structure helps reduce lateral movement, improve load distribution and provide support for roadways, slopes, embankments, retaining walls and erosion control applications.
Manufactured from HDPE, GA Geocells provide a practical solution for ground stabilisation, slope protection and load support where confinement of the infill material is required. The perforated cell walls allow water and air movement through the structure, helping support drainage and long-term performance.

Perforated Geocells

Multi-layered geocells are an ideal solution for gravity and MSE Retaining Walls
When infilled with compacted soil, concrete, sand, gravel or aggregate, geocells stabilise the surface by confining the infill and reducing particle movement. The textured and perforated cell walls improve interaction between the geocell and the infill material, while allowing lateral movement of air and water through the structure.
The suitable cell depth, infill material, anchoring method and whether a geotextile is required beneath the geocell will depend on the project design, subgrade condition, slope angle and expected loading.
GA Geocell Applications
Cellular Confinement Systems are widely used for erosion control, slope protection, load support, ground stabilisation, retaining walls and channel protection. They can also help reduce rutting, improve load distribution and create stable surfaces for temporary or permanent access.

Installing geocells for slope stabilisation
GA Geocells may be used across a range of applications, including:
- Erosion control
- Slope protection
- Road and access track stabilisation
- Load support for hardstands, roadways and rail support
- Channel, ditch and spillway protection
- Retaining wall and embankment applications
- Ground stabilisation and temporary haul roads
- Tree root protection
For vegetated applications, seeded topsoil may be used where ground conditions allow root growth into the underlying soil. For non-vegetated applications, granular material, aggregate, recycled concrete or concrete infill may be used depending on the required level of durability and erosion protection.
GA Geocell Installation

Stabilising a road base with geocells
GA Geocell panels are supplied folded flat to minimise transport and storage requirements. During installation, the panels are expanded on site, positioned over the prepared surface and secured using suitable anchors, pins, tendons, clips, anchor trenches or other approved fixing methods.
The expanded cells are then filled with the nominated infill material, such as soil, sand, aggregate, gravel, recycled concrete or concrete. The fill should be placed carefully to avoid displacement or damage to the cell walls, then compacted so the finished surface is flush or slightly below the adjacent terrain.
Where separation or filtration is required, a suitable nonwoven geotextile may be placed beneath the geocell layer before installation.
Easy to install geocell panels using tendons, anchors and clips
