Geogrids are engineered geosynthetic products made from polypropylene, polyethylene or polyester. Their open aperture confines substrates such as soil or gravel thereby increasing the shear strength of the materials. Geogrids and geocells are used in civil engineering and related applications for short and long term soil reinforcement and to stabilise embankments.
Rigid geogrids are manufactured by extruding high density polypropylene or polyethylene to form rigid arrays of varying strength, strain and load carrying capacity. Uniaxial geogrids have a primary strength in one direction. The strength of biaxial geogrids is usually equal in both directions.
Composite geogrids include a nonwoven geotextile and are suited for sites where both reinforcement of weak subgrades and separation and filtration is required.
